A Look Into The Chase
So… I’ve been irritated for a long time with these so-called rappers and their so-called projects. They always in the studio supposedly, always bout to drop some heat… and when it’s time for them to show & prove, they fall flat. And frankly, I’m sick of all these wanna be rappers! Like why does everyone think they can rap? It’s always been a long stigma that people don’t see any other professions except rapping, balling or slanging. But I feel like if you are truly a rapper, you are an artist first; you’re not just in it for the hype.
I never knew that my good friend Jamal Ferby was an artist. I always knew he was creative and into music, but I didn’t see his seriousness until he started talking about his craft more and more. The first time I heard some of his work was when he sent me “Blunts x Bourbon”… I listened, not sure of what I was gonna hear. One of my thoughts was “oooh lord, I hope he isn’t one of these guys that think they can rap just because…” I was pleasantly surprised when I heard his lyrical expression. Next thing I know, I was sitting in Sante Fe watching him perform with a live band, if I’m not mistaken, they’re known as Sugar Junkie. That’s when I became a follower of his music and I knew that he possessed true talent; whatever endeavor, he would be successful. Jamal (or Ferby Ferb as I call him, haha) personally sent me his link via Twitter so that I could download the sample to his mixtape, “A Look Into The Chase”. Knowing that I would be pleased with the material, I followed the link and added the three songs to my iTunes library.
Here’s my review!
This project is very professional, and I can tell that the finished product is going to be as well. This leak even comes with a press kit. This guy is all about his business and making moves! So, from the start I was intrigued by the marketing & presentation of it all. The first song I listened to was “Disclaimer” because that song was getting a lot of talk and it seemed like Ferb was very proud of this track. Upon listening, I can understand why. This piece seems very personal, and in my opinion, poetic. It’s very rare that people can express their inner thoughts and feelings into proper words. Well, Mr. Ferby is very eloquent indeed. He also spoke about the dying music industry and how he is “an asset”. I completely agree, anyone who can tell vivid stories in their music is indeed an asset. This song gives you a look into the way he views himself and the way he views the world around him. I give it 2 thumbs up!
“Free Fallin” immediately got my attention because of the beat. I have an ear for the production behind the lyrics because my ex-boyfriend is a music production and he introduced me to the world of snares, bass, samples, etc. So from my very novice opinion, this beat is tight! =D This song, Jamal is basically expressing his want to be free. It’s evident that he always breaks away from the pack in everything he does, so the message behind this song comes as no surprise. In a sense, we all want to be free, so I think this song can speak to a lot of us. I can definitely relate to this song because Ferb is speaking on his inward self-discovery. He knows the qualities he possesses and how he can utilize them. Ahh, just listen to the song! I don’t think I’m doing a good job of describing it. Lol.
The final song is “Once the Cloud Fades” which features a great, old-timey sample. The song is very soulful and is the epitome of feel good music. He did a great job with metaphors and word imagery in this song! You kind of have to keep up with the story he’s telling because it’s so witty and flowing. It’s like this came so effortless to him, he’s just spewing what he knows. He touched on subjects in this song such as his love life, and he even mentioned his ex-girlfriend in the song. That shows how raw and true to the heart his music is. I think that’s what makes his project so great because it’s not the typical, “I get money, bitches, fame…” type of music that everyone’s been coming out with lately. You almost can’t define this type of music, it just is. I think that’s great and this project will be veryyy successful.
Not to mention, Jamal has Southern roots. You guys know how I feel about Southern rap right now, so to get a breath of fresh air like this is reassuring. This music doesn’t even have a demographic and that’s completely how it should be in a sense. I think this is just pure art.I’m going to get the exact link for you guys to download, etc… but until then, follow this link to listen to the songs…Listen here on imeem
Enjoy! This sure gets my vote! Real music issss back…

An article I stole from B’s personal blogspot, I am at a lost for words on how much this meant to me…
Reviews are instrumental to an artwork[or product’s] audience because they give people unfamiliar with a subject or art piece a in depth look into what it is they should or should not indulge in….
But with B it was no oridnary review or reviewer for that much…She’s a close person to me and often acknowledges the things that some people don’t sense right away… It was with this abstract approach to life that allowed her to create even wonderful review in addition to her some of her already more profound creative writing pieces.
I TRULY APPRECIATED THIS and just wanted to display this for yall because not too often is great writing heralded anymore compared with the majestic years of ole English lieature and the great writers of our past histories who reached millions across the globe with their work……….
maybe I’m being dramatic and overly happy because the article was about some of my own work…
But then again, this isn’t about me.. it’s about the MUSIC… and SHE HIT THAT REVIEW RIGHT ON THE HEAD.[as close to my exact sentiments when creating this project as you’ll ever get]
