How did you get the name J. Ferb?
because im fucking awesome! [laughs] but no my first name is Jamal, last name Ferby so people always called me Ferb.
For those who might not be familiar with your new movement, tell us who is J Ferb?
part muscian, part activist.
actions before regrets.
everlasting youth.
I represent those who have nothing to live for other than the will to get more out of life today than they did yesterday.
Your from Memphis, a city with notable greats in music. Did they inspire you at all?
Yea, Memphis soul influenced me greatly. No matter the genre, artists from memphis — whether it be isaac hayes or bb king— are noteworthy for their energy and passionate deliveries. Andrew Van Wyngarden [of cult indie band MGMT] graduated from my high school. Yo Gotti is my cousin and allowed me to tour with him for months during the peak of one of his biggest promotional tours. Music in general is big where i’m from, growing up in memphis I probably couldn’t ask for a better foundation.
What makes you different from all of the artist coming out right now.
the fact that i could care less about being “different”…. I embrace individuality. No two people are alike to me therefore my “art”, per se, is the same — individual in my perspective and whirlwind experiences. http://jferb.com/music<— more details in every mp3
You have a new mixtape about to drop. What went into making that tape? Any features?
lots of traveling. [laughs] in the past year i moved around a lot and adopted a nomadic lifestyle. I like interacting with different people and I connected with new souls who live hard —-some with reckless abandonment—- and that contributed to me integrating a new perspective into my music and lyrics.
Point Of No Return (or PONR) is the title of the new project . it’s a loose concept album declaring my arrival into a new chapter of life, and features more up beat vibes with a hint of vigilance that reflect the madness i’ve been enjoying of late.

the content is all original, i got courted by labels, partied with ny city kids, climb mountains in vermont, and documented it all which made for a unique output. T.A.S.K. Productions is still on the boards, this time providing a fresher landscape for me to navigate my new perspective. Malcolm X, not to be confused with the activist, is a producer/visionary from MD who basically crafted this new bold sound on which we built PONR. Both he and T.A.S.K. Productions along with my tenured engineer Kevin A. of Freeline Music in MD are the usual suspects.
there’ll also be feature production from Beewirks [notable for work with Jeezy, Joe Budden, Just Blaze] and Judo [notable for work with Skewby]
any other surprises…you’ll have to wait and see[or listen for.]
oh, and I can’t forget my sponsors over at Society Original Products out of Boston[http://societysop.com]. They put a lot of work into the upcoming promo campaign I will be on this summer in promotion for PONR so lookout for collaborations between us throughout the year.
How do you describe your sound?
bold. spoken rage. immortal. raw. with a hint of david copperfield. What do you hope to accomplish through the release of your upcoming mixtape?
if i said “revolution” would that be cliché?[laughs]
i’m still undecided whether this’ll be a free release “mixtape”, per se, because I approached it like a album and it features 100 percent original production from my crew and I. I would like for it to expose my art to more people and showcase my evolution since my last project, Chase the Dreams, Not the Competition without it being limited to the “mixtape” scene so i’m still in talks with a couple labels on distribution. either way this project will see the light of day if i have to fund it all in house and deliver it personally for free.
this will undoubtably be an LP introduced through listening sessions around the country, followed by a tour to get out and meet people who connect with my music. in that hope to gain a few ears and enjoy more new places b/c im looking forward to making an impact with this project.

(…) I dismissed J. Ferb as the typical opening act but actually semi-talented. I eventually got around to “googling” him and discovered some of his work. Let’s just say he sounds like nothing else I have ever heard… (more)
